QNS neurosurgeons: Dr Bruce Hall, Dr Rumal Jayalath, Dr Paul Nichols and Dr Elena How are all Australian trained doctors. Each completed their neurosurgery fellowship training via the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in intracranial and spinal neurosurgery before completing additional sub-specialty training. These surgeons demonstrate an ongoing commitment to public hospitals, and because QNS is their private practice, it enables them to provide you with highly personalized care.

What Should I Bring to My First Neurosurgery Consultation?
Preparing for your first visit can feel overwhelming, but being organised helps us provide you with the best possible care. For any neurosurgery consultation, you must bring your referral letter from your GP or specialist, along with your Medicare card, private health insurance details (if applicable), and a list of any current medications.
It is also vital to bring any relevant imaging results. If you have had MRIs, CT scans, or X-rays related to your condition, please bring the original scans (on a CD or USB drive) or the radiology reports. Writing down a list of your symptoms and questions beforehand ensures you won't forget to discuss key details with your neurosurgery specialist. We also recommend bringing a support person to help take notes and remember the treatment options discussed during the consultation.
How Do I Get a Referral to a Neurosurgeon for Neurosurgery?
To access specialist neurosurgery care in Australia, a valid referral is required. The first step is visiting your General Practitioner (GP). They will assess your condition, whether it involves chronic back pain, spinal issues, or complex neurological concerns, and determine if a surgical opinion is necessary.
